Leyla Rose is a rock band which was formed in 2009 in Latvia, in the city on the Baltic Sea Coast - Liepaja.
The band’s music consists of a mixture of hard rock and glam rock elements and carries within it their initial sound.
The history of the band begins in 2009 when young and unexperienced musicians came together for the first time. To begin playing together successfully, they started to play covers of such bands as Rainbow, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. After a year of collaboration the band still hasn’t started the writing of their own material and on July 24th, 2009, gives its first and the last concert, consisting fully of covers of different bands, in the city park. Shortly after that, the vocalist leaves the band. The remaining three band members finally begin the writing of their own work and soon, on December 25th, 2010, under their first name A Day In A Life (which at that time was influenced by The Beatles song ‘’A Day In The Life’’) gives its first performance at Fire Bar, Liepaja, playing instrumentals with hints of psychedelia. Ironically, it was also the first and the last band’s concert with their instrumental song list.
On January 2011, the previous vocalist returns to the band. The band changes its music genre to hard rock and starts to write their own material. A new band name ‘’Leyla Rose’’ is chosen along with the change of style and band members. The band writes new material in a couple of months and starts performing at the local Fontaine club and Red Sound Buffet in Liepaja. The band participates also at the hippy festival at ‘’Gipsy Camp’’. ‘’Leyla Rose’’ gets the chance to record their three songs ‘’Rock n’ Fail’’, ‘’Emily’’ and ‘’Moonlight Babe’’ for free in the recording studio in summer 2011. The band also begins performing in Riga, at such clubs as Rockabilly, Depo and Rock n’ Riga.
A comment about the band on the club Depo website:
‘’The second to hit the stage is also from Liepaja, and it is palpable that it comes from the ‘’Capital of Rock’’. The band played classic rock in the style of Led Zeppelin; intense, strong vocal appropriate to the music’s style, somewhat between Robert Plant and Ivo Fomins, and a great guitarist, reminding of something between Jimmy Page and Ainars Virga’s guitar playing style.’’
On July 12, 2011, ‘’Leyla Rose’’ performs at the annual festival ‘’Saldus Saule’’, the other festival participants are such bands as ‘’Skyforger’’, ‘’Dzelzs Vilks’’, ‘’SIA Radikal’’ and ‘’Lordi’’.
In autumn 2011, the vocalist and drummer leave the band for an indefinite period of time, and the remaining two members of the group find a new drummer and start writing of completely new material. The bass player takes his place behind the microphone.
At the end of December 2011, the vocalist and drummer return again, and the band begin anew their work on new material. The band decide to shift their style slightly in the glam-rock direction.
‘’Leyla Rose’’ writes 4 new songs ‘’Corvette’’, ‘’Bad MotherFucker’’ and ‘’Wind Song’’ in a month.
At the moment, the band is focused on gaining success as never before.
